The Everest Inn, a Landmark Bed & Breakfast rests at the heart of the Andrew Warren Historical District. Built in 1908 by John Farrell, its style is late Queen Anne. In 1914, entrepreneur and businessman, D.C. Everest and his wife Rita purchased the house and made it their home until 1926. The house was vacant from 1926 to 1929. R.E Chartier used part of the home as an insurance agency from 1929 to 1936. Harold Bower, Treasurer of Employers Mutual Insurance Company, owned the home from 1936 until 1969. During this time a first floor addition was added to display his butterfly collection. Bowers collection is currently housed in a Los Angeles, CA museum. In 1969 Yaqub & Waltrud Karkar took ownership of the home and later used the Bower addition as the first location of the Madame Karkars’ Petit School of Ballet. In the spring of 1998 Dave and Lori Torkko purchased the house and have since maintained it as a Bed & Breakfast and their home until fall of 2016 when they retired. In the fall of 2016 Lenita Valdez, who will continue to maintain it as a Bed & Breakfast and home, purchased it.
